If you hope to have a long, happy life with your new Bulldog, you should put in some time to make sure that he is properly trained. If your young Bulldog is trained well, then you will both know what is to be expected of the other. After proper training there will be less to worry about and you will be able to leave him home alone with confidence. However, you may not want to leave your dog home alone for extended periods, but leaving your dog home alone during the workday is vital.

Consistency is one of the most important requirements for effective dog training. Have a strict list of command words that you use only when training and commanding, and make sure that anybody that associates with your dog knows the command words as well. Make sure everyone knows what to do in terms of rewarding your Bulldog when it does well and be sure to not reinforce poor behavior. A young dog may get confused if the reward does not always come after a good deed.

Get the entire family involved in your dog’s training. When you involve the whole household in the training exercises, the dog will begin to understand that he must obey the rules regardless of who issues them.

Make sure to get your dog neutered or spayed at a good animal hospital when they are around six months old. This should happen before you start obedience classes. If your dog is spayed or neutered, they will be much more obedient. Your relationship with your pet will be far more pleasant, and the dog is sure to be more content and in better health.

Above all, the goal of a training program is to set well-defined expectations for your pet. Your relationship with other people is strengthened by mutual respect and shared understanding; a relationship with your pet is no different. Remember to keep reinforcing what your Bulldog has learned. Make your puppy stay sharp on what he has learned and pay attention to relapses in your young dog’s behavior. Once your dog has the basics of training, there is no limit to how great your lives together can be.
